Baumgartner would also become the first human to break the sound barrier without the aid of a machine, as he is expected to fall faster than 690 miles per hour during the 10-minute jump, or faster than the speed of sound at that altitude. Baumgartner, 42, will wear a specially designed space suit built to withstand a sonic boom and the extreme conditions at the edge of space: atmospheric pressure so low it would vaporize a person's blood instantly, and temperatures of minus 70° Celsius. Felix Baumgartner's jump was originally schedule for Oct. 8 but has been postponed because the balloon can only take off in near-perfect weather conditions. The next window of good weather opens up on Sunday. Baumgartner will be carried through the troposphere to the outer limits of the stratosphere by the largest helium balloon in history, which will stand 334 feet tall ...
